Position Overview:

The MIT Sloan School of Management is seeking candidates for a Senior Lecturer and Analytics Capstone Industry Liaison.   This individual will be responsible for designing and teaching a Proseminar Class in Business Analytics, a 3-unit course for graduate students interested in obtaining practical knowledge in the field of analytics.   The Analytics Proseminar is a required course as part of the newly launched Business Analytics Certificate, overseen by the Master of Business Analytics (MBAn) Program.   The Proseminar will be made available to all MIT Sloan graduate students.

The MBAn program is MIT's newest graduate program and is the most competitive when measured in terms of applications per seat.   The Senior Lecturer will provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure the success of the Analytics Certificate and Analytics Capstone Projects and work closely with faculty to develop a meaningful curriculum, capstone project sourcing and industry partner development strategy.

This position will play a key role in enhancing our students' academic experience by collaborating with current faculty on action learning courses, laboratory courses, and through mentoring student teams on company sponsored projects.   Candidate will be also be responsible for initiating interactions between students and business analytics industry participants.

The Senior Lecturer and Industry Liaison reports to the Faculty Chair and the Program Director for the Master of Business Analytics Program.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):

  • Designing and teaching the Proseminar in Business Analytics
  • Creating and maintaining long-term industry partnerships with Analytics Capstone Project sponsors
  • Serving as the point person, along with the MBAn Program Director, for all Business Analytics Certificate matters, including the following:
    • working with the MBAn Program, Career Development, and Student Life Offices to plan events (panels, speakers, trainings, etc.) that will help prepare students in the certificate for the job market in analytics
    • evaluating the Business Analytics curriculum and extra-curricular activities and propose changes when necessary
    • working with the Business Analytics Policy Committee and analytics-related clubs to gather feedback on the Certificate; based on that feedback make proposals to Analytics faculty, as appropriate,
    • informing MIT Sloan candidates about the Certificate through the admissions cycle, collaborating with MIT Sloan Admissions to generate information for MIT Sloan on the Road presentations and AdMIT weekend
    • accompanying events such as onsite days, and analytics-related treks in order to help students make job contacts, and
    • working with the Faculty and Program Directors to advise Certificate students on academic and job-related matters.

Supervision Received:

Supervision will be provided by the Faculty Director and the Program Director of the Master of Business Analytics program.

Supervision Exercised:

None.

Qualifications & Skills:

Master's degree required

A graduate-level degree in computer science, operations research, data science, or related field highly preferred.

Experience: Candidates should have a proven record with minimum of five years' experience in the analytics industry, preferably in data science, mathematics, operations research, and/or engineering.

Requires leadership, vision, and strong management, communications, organizational skills.   Strong technical and project management skills.   Demonstrated experience in academic administration, program/curriculum development, events and communications management.   International experience and perspective is critical.

Must demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; an ability to work in an environment with a broad range of internal and external constituents.   Experience in higher education highly desirable; successful experience teaching a diverse student population is strongly preferred.   Familiarity with MIT Sloan faculty and/or MIT faculty would be helpful.
